Tens of thousands of New Mexican children are being neglected educationally. Not permitted to return to school in person, our kids are stuck at home doing virtual learning, away from their peers and the support systems provided in physical schools. The question is: does science back up this decision to keep our children home from school? As you'll see from exploring this website, it does not. The experts are generally united in agreeing that our kids can and should be safely attending school in person.
As families and policymakers make decisions about their children returning to school, it is important to consider the full spectrum of benefits and risks of both in-person and virtual learning options. Parents are understandably concerned about the safety of their children at school in the wake of COVID-19."
The nation's pediatricians have come out with a strong statement in favor of bringing children back to the classroom this fall wherever and whenever they can do so safely. The American Academy of Pediatrics' guidance "strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school."
Today, there’s extensive data that we have—we’ve gathered over the last two to three months—that confirm that K-12 schools can operate with face-to-face learning and they can do it safely and they can do it responsibly, The infections that we’ve identified in schools when they’ve been evaluated were not acquired in schools. They were actually acquired in the community and in the household.
